HERA document R4-82 makes a study of a number of slab systems and generalizes, that for tray flooring complying with section 13 NZS 3404, a minimum FRR of 30 minutes is inherent without additional means of fire protection. Further, “explicit analysis of the load bearing capacity of fire exposed composite concrete steel slabs is only necessary for requirements over 30 minutes”.
Consequently, this manual assumes that compliance of 30 minute FRR is achieved by tray flooring without provision for FER. It is further assumed that fulfilment of New Zealand Building Code Requirements is achieved for 30 minute FRR requirements.
