17.1 professional use of manual only
The information and data involved in this manual is for the use of structural design engineers and construction professionals conversant with composite Trayfloor construction.
17.2 manual is a single document
This manual must be read as a complete document, with all sections relating to each other. Under no circumstances shall any part be read, used or interpreted in isolation for the remainder of the manual. For any limitations, assumptions or criteria stated within any section, it is implied that those limitations, assumptions and criteria apply to the complete manual.
Tables incorporated within this manual refer only to profiles, Unifloor, Svelte Floor, Svelte Floor 60, Svelte Floor 80, and are not to be used in any way with regard to other profiles or products. Under no circumstances shall other products be deemed ‘equivalent’ to any product specified within this manual.
17.3 suitability for use
The information contained within this manual is as far as possibly accurate at the date of publication, however, before application in a particular situation, Formsteel Industries recommends that perspective users obtain qualified expert advice confirming the suitability of product(s) in question for the application proposed.
This publication is issued as a general guide only and should not be treated as a substitute for detail technical advice in relation to individual circumstances.
17.4 mandatory to include specification
For the use of any information from this manual, it is mandatory that the designer/ specifier include the following strict specifications within the contract documents for the project under consideration.
That the tray floor be specified as Formsteel Industries Unifloor, Svelte Floor 60, Svelte Floor 80, for whichever profile has been designed for that project.
That the requirements set down as part of the span table used to obtain propping spans for a tray floor system, are prerequisite conditions of the specifiers/ designers design of the floor systems supporting structure.
That the contract documents, including drawings and specifications, clearly state whether or not construction is to proceed on a ‘screed to thickness’ or a ‘screed to level’ basis.
That the contract documents, include a specification which incorporates a strict interpretation of clauses 14.4.1 through to 14.4.3 for a floor to be ‘screeded to thickness’.
That the contract documents include a specification. Which incorporates a strict interpretation of clauses 15.1.1 for a floor to be ‘screeded to level’.
That the classification of each floor in a project, in accordance with Part 3 of HERA REPORT R4-107:2005 be specified on the drawings and within specifications. Where less stringent values of flatness and levelness have been agreed between the client, the designer and the contractor (refer clause 14.4-2). These shall be specifically noted.
That should the specifier / designer plan to use a constructional live load other that a strict interpretation within BS5950: Part 4, that this is clearly denoted within the Contract Documents, including drawings and specifications. Substantiation documentation is to be submitted to the Territorial Authority in respect of the constructional live load, including a procedure to be followed on site to ensure that this limit is not exceeded.
