7.1 type 1 – single simply supported unrestrained
Type 1 slabs consist of a single simply supported span which is assumed not to interact with the surrounding structure. Supports permit unrestrained shrinkage and consequently allowance for both creep and shrinkage are accounted for.
Depending on compliance to which standard (refer Section 3 - secondary reinforcement), the designer, intends to follow, minimum secondary reinforcement can be used.
Where required Fire Ratings of slabs is 30 minutes or less, simply supported slabs can be a straightforward and economical solution, since no extra fire reinforcement is required. However, where fire ratings greater than 30 minutes are required, extra positive flexural reinforcement is required to be placed longitudinally in the pans of the trays.
